Telegram Adds New Welcome Messages for Channels and Groups

Welcome Message Feature Coming to Telegram

In the upcoming Telegram 12.10 Beta for Android, admins will be able to create and edit welcome messages for their groups and channels. These messages are temporary, meaning only users who just joined the conversation can see them, while existing members remain unaware.

According to @telemmx, bots will also be able to send welcome messages, including rich-text formats, to new joiners. These messages will appear as if sent by the conversation owner rather than the bot, preserving identity.

Message Limits and Setup

Currently, up to 3 welcome messages can be set on the main servers, while the test servers allow up to 5. These numbers may change in the future. Admins can configure welcome messages by going to Group or Channel > Settings > Welcome Messages.

Applicability and Potential Risks

⚠️ Note: The welcome message feature will likely be available not only for groups but also for channels upon release. However, malicious admins may abuse this by sending deceptive messages like “The channel admin has a message for you…” to mislead newcomers. Stay cautious when joining new communities.
